Description
A substantial vintage iron padlock with its original matching key, dating approximately from the period 1920–1950. According to its provenance, the lock was acquired from a military warehouse and was formerly used to secure a military machine-gun chest.
The padlock has a heavy round riveted body, a thick U-shaped shackle and remnants of its original olive-green finish. Natural surface corrosion, worn paint and an aged patina give the piece an authentic industrial and military character.
Origin and dating
Its construction is consistent with Central European industrial padlocks manufactured during the first half of the 20th century. A German origin is possible, although comparable locks were also produced in Czechoslovakia and Poland. Because no maker’s mark or military identification stamp is visible, the exact manufacturer and country of production cannot be confirmed.
Condition
The padlock is supplied with its matching old bit key and the locking mechanism is working. It remains in authentic vintage condition, with visible oxidation, scratches, worn paint and other traces of prolonged use. These characteristics form part of the object’s history and have not been removed through restoration.
Because of its age, the padlock is offered as a historical and collectible object rather than as a modern high-security lock.
