Dark Green Glossy Glaze
The most striking feature of the vase is its deep dark green glossy glaze. Depending on the light, the surface shifts between very dark green, petrol-green and almost black-green tones.
The high-gloss finish gives the vase visual depth and emphasises its smoothly curved form.
White Abstract Decoration
Across the dark glazed surface is a contrasting white abstract decoration made up of irregular splashes, organic shapes and freely distributed marks.
Rather than forming a conventional floral or geometric pattern, the decoration has an expressive, almost painterly quality that gives each section of the vase a different appearance.
This contrast between the dark ground and spontaneous white decoration gives the piece a strong mid-to-late 20th-century studio pottery aesthetic.
Sculptural Flared Form
The vase has an elongated body that gradually narrows towards the neck before opening into a broad flared rim.
Its flowing silhouette gives it a sculptural quality even when displayed without flowers.
At approximately 16 cm (6.3 in) high, it is compact enough for a shelf, sideboard, bedside table or display cabinet while remaining visually distinctive.
Unglazed Terracotta Base
The underside reveals the natural reddish colour of the ceramic body through an unglazed terracotta base.
This exposed foot provides a useful view of the underlying clay and contrasts strongly with the dark glossy exterior.
No visible factory stamp, maker’s signature, model number or other identifying mark has been found on the base.
Dating & Communist-Era Context
No dated factory documentation accompanies the vase, so an exact production year cannot be established.
Based on its form, glaze, terracotta body and abstract decorative treatment, the piece is stylistically consistent with decorative ceramics produced during the 1970s–1980s.
If the vase is of Eastern European manufacture, this estimated dating would place it within the broader Communist-era / socialist-era period of decorative ceramic production.
However, because no maker’s mark or documented country of origin is present, we do not attribute the vase definitively to a particular Communist-era factory, country or workshop. The period remains a stylistic estimate rather than a documented attribution.
Condition
The vase is in excellent vintage condition and appears to have been unused.
The glossy glaze remains bright and well preserved, the interior is clean, and no obvious major chips or cracks are visible.
Minor manufacturing variations in the glaze or decoration may be present and form part of the character of this type of vintage ceramic production.
Please examine all photographs carefully, including the views of the base, interior, rim and decorative surface, as they form an important part of the description and show the actual vase offered for sale.
Boho, Mid-Century & Eclectic Interior Styling
The combination of dark green glaze, expressive white decoration and sculptural form makes the vase particularly suitable for boho, eclectic, vintage, mid-century-inspired and contemporary interiors.
It can be displayed on its own or arranged with pampas grass, eucalyptus, dried flowers, seasonal stems or a minimalist bouquet.
Natural wood, rattan, linen and warm neutral colours provide an especially attractive contrast to the dark glazed surface.
A distinctive vintage decorative object for collectors of 20th-century ceramics, studio-style pottery, Eastern European vintage décor and unusual ceramic vases.
