Description

Vintage Green Glass 8-Litre Storage Jar, Mid-20th Century

This vintage green glass 8-litre storage jar is a substantial wide-mouth vessel made from thick blue-green glass with visible air bubbles, slight surface irregularities and a heavy rounded rim.

Its form can also be described as a wide-mouth demijohn or carboy, although the broad opening and almost cylindrical body make “storage jar” the most precise primary description.

The piece is conservatively dated to the mid-20th century, approximately c. 1940s–1960s.

Thick Blue-Green Glass

The vessel is made from heavy blue-green glass with a characteristic vintage appearance.

Small air bubbles, slight variations in thickness and optical irregularities are visible throughout the glass. These production characteristics give the vessel depth and texture and are typical of older utilitarian glassware.

With a weight of approximately 1.8 kg / 3.97 lb, the jar feels substantial and stable.

Wide Mouth and Practical Form

The vessel has a wide mouth measuring approximately 10 cm / 3.94 in in diameter, with a thick rounded rim.

The body widens gradually below the neck and forms a compact, heavy storage vessel. Its wide opening makes it suitable for decorative use with dried flowers, branches or grasses, while its historic utilitarian form also gives it strong vintage character.

Embossed “T” in Circle Mark

The body carries a clearly visible embossed “T” within a circle.

The base also bears a separate embossed number “8”. These are production marks, but the exact manufacturer associated with the “T” in circle has not been independently identified.

For this reason, the vessel is described according to the marks physically present on the glass without attributing it to a specific factory.
