Description
This elegant vintage porcelain box is marked “LIMOGES FRANCE”, identifying its origin in Limoges, one of France’s most celebrated porcelain-producing regions.
The domed lid is decorated with a colourful romantic pastoral scene in the style of Antoine Watteau, depicting a seated lady and a musician in a woodland setting. A rich raspberry-red ground, intricate gilt ornament and broad gold bands give the box a refined and highly decorative appearance.
The smooth white glazed interior makes the piece suitable for storing jewellery, keepsakes or other small treasures. It may also be displayed as a decorative bonbonnière or added to a collection of vintage French porcelain.
The green “LIMOGES FRANCE” backstamp confirms the place of production but does not identify a specific porcelain factory.
Condition
The box is structurally sound, with no cracks, chips or visible restoration. There is age-related wear and partial loss to the gilding, particularly along the broad gold bands. These signs of use are clearly shown in the photographs and form part of the object’s authentic vintage character.
