Description
Set of 4 Vintage Handmade Crochet Doilies, 1930s–1940s
A charming set of four vintage handmade crochet doilies, each individually worked in a different floral and openwork pattern.
According to information provided by the previous owner, the set dates from approximately the 1930s–1940s and has been preserved for many decades.
Although similar in size and overall character, each doily has its own distinctive design. The patterns combine floral centres, circular crochet bands, radiating fan-shaped motifs, scalloped sections and delicate openwork borders.
The pieces were traditionally starched, helping the crochet retain its shape. The present warm cream-beige tone is influenced by this starching and should not be interpreted as metallic or gold-coloured thread.
Each doily measures approximately 19 cm (7.5 in) in diameter.
