Porzellan – Made in Bulgaria Backstamp
One of the most useful identification features is the green mark visible on the underside of the cups. It includes the wording “Porzellan” and “Made in Bulgaria” together with a stylised factory device.
The German word Porzellan should not be interpreted as evidence that the set was made in Germany. The country wording clearly identifies the production as Bulgarian.
Factory marks and country wording are important identification clues, but they should always be considered together with form, porcelain body, decoration and manufacturing characteristics. For a broader explanation, see our
Porcelain Marks & Backstamps Identification Guide.
Gold-Tone Decoration
The white porcelain is decorated with a broad gold-tone ornamental band around the upper edge of each cup and the outer border of each saucer.
A repeating decorative motif appears within the wider band, while a finer linear border provides additional contrast against the plain white porcelain.
The decoration has an elegant, formal appearance typical of vintage European tableware intended for coffee service and entertaining.
The metallic decoration is described as gold-tone. We do not claim a specific gold purity or composition because the decoration has not been independently tested.
Bulgarian Porcelain & Kitka
Bulgarian porcelain from the 20th century is an increasingly interesting collecting field, particularly when factory marks, original decoration and complete matching sets survive together.
Manufacturers such as Kitka produced domestic tableware as well as porcelain intended for wider distribution and export. Country wording such as Made in Bulgaria, factory devices and export-style backstamps can therefore be important clues when identifying Bulgarian porcelain.
This coffee set is particularly useful from a collecting perspective because it combines a recognisable factory-style mark, coordinated decoration and a complete group of six matching cup-and-saucer pairs.
For the history of Bulgarian porcelain, manufacturers, factory marks, identification, dating and collecting, see our
Complete Guide to Bulgarian Porcelain – History, Manufacturers, Marks & Collecting.
Dating
The set is consistent with Bulgarian porcelain production from the second half of the 20th century. Based on its shape, decoration and backstamp style, a date around the 1970s–1980s is a reasonable working estimate.
No dated factory documentation accompanies the set, so this period should be regarded as an approximate attribution rather than an exact manufacturing date.
Condition
The set is in good vintage condition.
The photographs show clean, glossy porcelain with no obvious major chips or cracks visible on the supplied images. There is some age-related wear and rubbing to the gold-tone decoration, particularly along exposed rims and borders.
Minor surface marks and variations consistent with previous use and age may also be present.
Please examine all photographs carefully, including the close-ups of the decoration and factory mark, as they form an important part of the description and show the actual set offered for sale.
A 12-Piece Coffee Set for Six
The six matching cup-and-saucer pairs make this an attractive vintage set for serving espresso-style or small coffees, displaying in a porcelain cabinet, or adding to a collection of Bulgarian porcelain and Eastern European vintage tableware.
The combination of white porcelain and restrained gold-tone decoration allows the set to work in both traditional vintage interiors and more contemporary table settings.
A decorative and collectible example of 20th-century Bulgarian porcelain with a clearly visible Made in Bulgaria backstamp and a complete group of six matching cups and saucers.
